Einstein once said, “There are only two ways of looking at the world: as if nothing is a miracle or as if everything is a miracle.”

Which way do you see the world?

If you’re losing sight of the miracles all around you, it may be a sign that you’re neglecting your spiritual wellness.

Spiritual wellness is less tangible than physical wellness, so it’s easier to overlook. When you neglect your physical wellness, you feel physical pain or discomfort that sends you running to the doctor. But when you neglect your spiritual wellness, the symptoms are subtler. You feel stressed, uneasy or less joyful than normal. Life feels mundane, and everything feels like a chore.

It’s easy to ignore these subtle symptoms, but you shouldn’t. Spiritual wellness plays a critical role in your health and happiness. Research shows that setting aside time to connect with your spirit improves your mental well-being, increases your cardiovascular health and boosts your immune function.

The path to better spiritual wellness is different for everybody. Some people feed their spirit by going to church or religious services. But spiritual wellness isn’t always tied to religion. Anything that makes you feel happy, centered and peaceful is good for your spirit. If you’re looking for new ways to nourish your spirit, try these seven simple, soulful activities:

#1 Sit quietly and focus on your breath for five minutes. This simple form of mindfulness meditation quiets your mind, reduces stress and makes you feel more centered.

#2 Wake up early and watch the sunrise with a friend. Observing beauty feeds your spirit. If you really want to make a day of it, watch the sunset together too.

#3 Spend a whole day (or more) in nature. Most of our time is spent indoors, but nature is a powerful stress-reliever that can help you reconnect with your spirit. A day or two of camping will do wonders. But even an afternoon out in nature will make you feel better.

#4 Volunteer for a cause you care about. Nothing feeds your spirit more than giving back. Your spirit thrives when you feel like you’re contributing to the greater good.

#5 Create something. Whether it’s a song, a scarf, a short story, a cake or a painting, creating something from scratch helps your spirit soar.

#6 Start a gratitude journal. Set aside 10 minutes every day to write down five things you’re grateful for. It’s a simple way to stay connected to what’s truly important.

#7 Connect with kids. Nothing ignites that spiritual spark like spending time with kids. They’re totally in touch with their own joyful spirit, and it rubs off!

Choose one or two things from this list, and try them this week. You’ll be surprised how quickly these activities reignite your sense of wonder, restore your zest for life and re-open your eyes to those small miracles all around you. To better spiritual wellness!
